Gilmour Academy

About Us:
Gilmour Academy is an independent, Catholic, and coeducational college-preparatory school located near Cleveland, Ohio, and sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross from Notre Dame, Indiana.

Students are at the center of all that Gilmour Academy does to nurture the heart, to educate the mind, and to promote personal leadership toward making our world more humane and just. This is the cornerstone of our mission. Our students thrive intellectually and spiritually within a context of the Catholic school tradition lived and shaped by the Congregation of Holy Cross for more than 150 years.

Gilmour Academy opened its doors more than six decades ago to young minds seeking a rigorous college-preparatory school education. We continue today to instill the desire for excellence in academic mastery and moral character that prepares our students to succeed in college and in life, while laying a foundation of justice and compassion toward others.

Our students are instructed by well-qualified faculty who are purposeful in their efforts to guide young men and women to excellence and success. They learn in facilities that support a curriculum for our 21st century, and in an environment that cultivates their artistic and athletic talents, and fosters moral leadership with a commitment to serving others.

Mission:
To develop the competence to see and the courage to act in creating a more humane and just society.

Everything about Gilmour is driven by the Holy Cross mission to translate moral beliefs into practice – from our college preparatory academic program and extracurricular activities, to our day and boarding programs, our facilities and endowment, and especially our status as an independent coeducational Catholic school.

Our mission manifests itself across our campus:
-In our faculty, who educate our students in a research-based curriculum which engages life learning.

-In an academic setting , where young men and women shape themselves into people who are effective communicators, complex thinkers, effective problem-solvers, collaborative contributors, lifelong learners, and morally responsible persons.

-In creating a culture, of empathy and compassion for others through community service.

-In teaching values, proactively in the critical years of boys’ and girls’ development that embraces all people, cultures, and faiths through programs that help them understand and accept the many ways we are different and to recognize the ways we are alike.

Our mission sustains the excellent private coeducation Gilmour Academy is able to offer and provides the foundation for the critical thinking, moral formation, and independent leadership we seek to inspire in our students.

Villa Angela-Saint Joseph High School

Mission Statement
Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School is a Catholic, comprehensive, co-educational high school committed to academic excellence and the development of student gifts. With a college preparatory curriculum rooted in Ursuline and Marianist core values of education, service, justice and diversity, Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School strives to bring each student to a deeper commitment to Jesus Christ and Gospel values. VASJ students become lifelong learners who transform the world.

We are Different
VASJ students come together in a family-like environment that inspires them to achieve as individuals while being committed members of a vibrant school community. The relationships that VASJ students build with faculty, staff and each other help them mature into adults of strong faith, character and motivation.

Transforming Through Academic Excellence
As a smaller Catholic high school, a VASJ education provides far-reaching advantages to all of our students. VASJ provides a highly personalized learning experience based upon the relationships between students and teachers that only a small school can provide. We offer one of the most progressive approaches to an integrated curriculum that you will find in Cleveland, where interdisciplinary learning isn’t just a goal, but a daily reality.

Transforming Through Faith
Our Peer Ministry program is an established national model for effectively involving students in developing their faith. Peer Ministers are leaders in service to the school and the greater community. They plan and participate in liturgies, prayer services and lead our morning and afternoon daily prayers.

Transforming Through Diversity
For decades, VASJ has enrolled exceptional students from Catholic, private and public schools across the Cleveland area who want to grow spiritually, excel academically, be challenged athletically and who are open to building friendships with students different from themselves. Our students proudly embrace our diversity and it shows in their school pride and the family spirit that makes our Viking Village something truly special.
