The mission of Sts. Peter and Paul School is to work in partnership with parents and the Parish to teach and practice the Catholic faith and emphasize a dynamic academic experience, while meeting the needs of the whole child, in the present and for the future. We have a strong academic program that helps each child develop physically, socially, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually. Our mission is accomplished through respect shown towards one another and an opening in our hearts and minds to all of Godís wonders.
Sts. Peter and Paul Parish was founded in 1827 and is the oldest parish in the Cleveland Diocese. Our school was established in 1862. The Holy Humility of Mary nuns taught at our school from 1863-1906 when the Dominican nuns began teaching. The sisters of St. Dominic OP taught at Sts. Peter and Paul from 1906 to 1985. Our kindergarten program opened in 1987. The school joined the parish in celebrating its 175th Anniversary in 2002.
Our academic program includes full day kindergarten through eighth grade. We provide a challenging curriculum with a firm foundation in Reading, Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, and Technology. Students receive Foreign Language instruction, Music, and Physical Education twice a week and Art classes once a week. We have a new computer lab and a complete campus library. Kindergarten is housed in a beautifully decorated, fully equipped, separate facility. It is a home-like atmosphere allowing children to gain confidence and easing their transition into school experiences. Christian values are infused into our daily curriculum and small classes allow for individual attention.
Programs and activities include a yearly Spelling and Geography Bee, Accelerated Reader Program, Yearbook and school newspaper, Art and Essay Contests, Student led conferences, Talent Show, plays and musical programs, field trips, CYO athletics, field day, ski club, holiday parties, childrenís choir, Forestersí Programs after-school, Power of the Pen, Academic Challenge, Student Council, and a summer enrichment program.
Students receive daily religious instruction and prayer, weekly Mass participation, preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. They attend Stations of the Cross during Lent and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation twice a year.
We have a faculty of 9 full time teachers, a reading and math tutor, a computer instructor, a Music teacher, an Art teacher, a Physical Education instructor, a Speech and Language Pathologist, a Guidance Counselor, a Spanish instructor, a librarian, and a school nurse with a full time principal. A hot lunch is served three times a week with parent volunteer support.
Our current enrollment is 148 students. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying families. All faiths are welcome. We have full accreditation from the State of Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association.
